“In this election year, with Republicans using this rhetoric to pass anti-trans legislation in North Carolina, we do not need the White House cosigning and advancing attacks on queer and trans youth,” stated Eliazar Posada, Interim Executive Director of Equality North Carolina. “All of us in North Carolina have seen the impact of this type of rhetoric in our communities. The Biden Administration should and must be our ally in this, rather than a proponent of hate.”

Happy Holidays! Equality NC closed our doors for the holiday break on December 8, 2023, to give our staff a well-deserved break to rest, recharge, and rejoice with loved ones. One of the things we do at Equality NC is one-word check-ins when we open and close our meetings. As we close out 2023 and usher in 2024 the word that comes to mind for me is Hopeful.
When I joined Equality NC as Executive Director, I knew I was joining an organization whose leadership had voted to adopt an explicit race equity lens, making Equality NC one of the few in the Equality Federation that embraced the truth that we cannot work for LGBTQ+ equality without grappling with the racist foundations of the U. S. and its legacy in our everyday lives.
