Equality NC stands in solidarity with women, trans, intersex and non-binary people across our state and country that are reeling from the devastating and harmful Supreme Court decision that overturns Roe v. Wade. For over a half century this right to bodily autonomy has stood, and the outrageous decision by the conservative court now puts millions of people in danger of losing the access to the basic human right of reproductive justice. The government overreach is staggering. Overturning Roe and Casey and allowing states to ban abortion access will have devastating consequences for anyone who can become pregnant as well as for the children they already have, for their health, and for their abilities to support themselves and their loved ones. Those consequences will fall hardest on people at the margins already such as, families of color, and those with the fewest financial resources.

We will be joining with Planned Parenthood at 5:30pm in Bicentennial Plaza for a rally and invite you to attend.

Kendra R. Johnson (she/her) Equality NC Executive Director said:

We know that this assault on the right to abortion has been tied to attacks on our community, especially those on banning and restricting trans healthcare. Attacks on the bodily autonomy of trans people and pregnant people come from a common place of misogyny and transphobia. This decision not only effectively bans abortion and reproductive healthcare for millions, it sets a legal precedent that will target removing marriage equality, and any LGBTQ+ federal protections. We must return to our roots of mutual aid - activists and communities have continually stepped up to the plate, making sure that pregnant people could get the abortions they needed. We need to continue in that spirit to make sure that the right to abortion continues, even in the absence of legal protections!
