ENC condemns disgraceful insurrection at U.S. Capitol

Equality North Carolina condemns yesterday's disgraceful insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building. The violence and mob mentality of the attack can be directly linked to years of hate speech and divisive rhetoric from the President, his allies, and the legacy of white supremacy in this country.

The events of yesterday were the culmination of Trump's attacks on those of us who live at the intersections of multiple lenses of oppressions. Countless marginalized Americans, particularly people of color and trans or gender nonconforming folks, have personally experienced the effects of this climate through violence, harassment or death. Yesterday's egregious display marked a boiling point of this period in American history, and we must all do everything in our power to fight for sweeping reform -- of our politics, of our media and information apparatuses, and of our values as a nation.

Our communities deserve a better world, and Equality North Carolina will continue to fight for it in the weeks and months ahead. We build LGBTQ+ power through advocacy, education, and uplifting the stories of queer and trans North Carolinians in pursuit of racial and social justice -- and we invite you to join us in that fight.

We will get through this together.
