From all of us at Equality North Carolina, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well as we begin to navigate this tumultuous new year. It goes without saying that we're continuing to live through surreal and unprecedented times. It's imperative that we all ensure that we're taking care of ourselves -- and each other -- in the months ahead.
On January 6th, we saw white supremacists storm our capital and threaten the lives of our elected officials. COVID-19 continues to ravage our communities as the vaccine rollout lags. We may be barreling towards inauguration day, but our communities know that the forces and systems in this country that brought us to this set of crises will still remain in place -- and it is up to us to dismantle them. Through all of this, Equality NC will continue to be here for you. Thank you for being a part of our family, and of this movement.
This week, Equality NC celebrated the historic passage of LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances in Hillsborough, Carrboro and Chapel Hill -- the first municipalities to do so following December's sunset of HB142. ENC is beyond elated that these local elected officials are paving the way a safer, more compassionate North Carolina, and can't wait to see other towns, cities and counties that follow suit. Want to let your local elected officials know that #NCIsReady for nondiscrimination protections? Head to ncisready.org.
We're hitting the ground running and looking for new members for ENC's Political Action Committee for 2021! If you're passionate about pursuing LGBTQ equity through the electoral process, this is the perfect opportunity for you. ENC is seeking diverse voices with deep connections to their communities who can provide expertise and insight about the leaders that North Carolina needs in the years ahead.
