Position Overview
The ENC Organizer recruits, trains, and mobilizes volunteers as needed to carry out grassroots organizing plans. This includes phone banks, canvassing, rallies, teach-ins, petition drives, and other forms of grassroots action, including the formation of local core activist groups and volunteer leadership programs. Anticipated start date of June 2, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Engage and grow our base of supporters, and build power for the LGBTQ+ movement
- Engage local progressive organizations and community leaders
- Build sustainable, community-organizing volunteer teams
- Oversee the development and coordination of a regional ENC Chapter, this includes facilitating regular chapter meetings, recruiting new members, and retaining current members.
- Complete timely data entry and management. Maintain and utilize the VAN (Voter Action Network) to track events and volunteers
- Contribute content for newsletters, web, stories, and media as needed
- Provide preparatory assistance for meetings and special events as they pertain to public affairs
- In partnership with Organizing Director, coordinate outreach activities including speaking engagements, and representation at meetings and events
- Keep informed of all aspects of political and legislative issues as they pertain to LGBTQ+ rights
- In partnership with Organizing Director, help develop and recruit ENC volunteer trainings
Qualifications/Experience
Need to have:
- Live or are willing to move to the region where you are applying to work
- Ability to travel within North Carolina as-needed
- Experience leading direct voter contact activities, including canvasses, phone banks, or relational organizing events
- Comfortable with using technology including SMS, social media platforms, and voter databases
- Ability to use personal stories to explain why you organize and move others into action
- Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and showing progress towards goals—this includes being committed to being well-organized and strong time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds
- Flexible, adaptable, and solutions-oriented
- Self-starter who could work independently and be a great team player
- Must have access to a vehicle and a cell phone
Nice to have:
- 1-2 years as a volunteer or staff doing field, legislative, or campaign organizing
- Working knowledge of North Carolina politics and advocacy, particularly in assigned region
- Working knowledge of VAN, Google Sheets,or another tool for data management
- 1-2 years of remote work experience
- Strong ties to the assigned region in North Carolina

Compensation and Benefits
This is an entry level role and provides a non-exempt starting salary of $48K per year.
- Equality NC pays 80% of employee Health and 100% dental, vision, long-term disability, short-term disability, and life insurance
- 15 days of PTO with an increase at year one and again at year three; 16 paid holidays annually; end of year office closure
- 3% Matching 403(b) after three months of employment
