Raleigh, NC – Equality North Carolina, a leading advocate for the rights and protections of the LGBTQ+ community, is proud to announce that Eliazar Posada has been appointed as the permanent Executive Director, effective August 1.
Since stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director in January 2024, Posada has exhibited exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication to Equality North Carolina’s mission. Under his stewardship, the organization has thrived and significantly advanced its impact on the LGBTQ+ community across the state. His leadership has propelled Equality North Carolina to the forefront of the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, making it a powerful force for change.
“We are at a pivotal moment in history where leadership like Eliazar’s is crucial for the LGBTQ+ rights movement and intersectional justice issues nationwide. North Carolina is fortunate to have a seasoned grassroots organizer and political strategist guiding us during such a critical time for our community,” said Milan Pham, Chair of the Board of Directors. “With Eliazar at the helm, I am confident that Equality NC will deepen its involvement in endorsing candidates in down-ballot races that matter most to our community, creating lasting, positive changes for LGBTQ+ rights.”
The Board of Directors expresses deep gratitude to Posada for his outstanding leadership during the interim period and looks forward to continued growth and success under his guidance.
Posada’s appointment has garnered support from numerous statewide and national partners. Eliazar is the right choice to lead this pivotal organization as it continues fighting for all LGBTQ+ North Carolinians.”
With extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly in addressing community needs in North Carolina, Posada brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success to his new role. Before serving as Interim Executive Director, he was the Organizing Director at Equality North Carolina. Representative Vernetta Alston, a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, noted, “Through years of hard work, Eliazar has built credibility and relationships that position him for a successful tenure as Executive Director.” Ashlei Blue, North Carolina State Director of America Votes, echoed this sentiment: "Eliazar has been a brilliant strategic partner and leader. We are excited about this new era for Equality NC.”
“I am honored and excited to take on the role of Executive Director at Equality NC,” said Posada. “I look forward to continuing to work with our dedicated team, partners, and supporters to advance our mission and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.” Tara Romano, Executive Director of Pro-Choice North Carolina, also expressed her support, stating, “Eliazar deeply understands the interconnections between reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ rights. I am thrilled to continue our partnership as he leads Equality NC.”
As Executive Director, Posada will focus on embedding equality into every decision made by state leaders, ensuring that Equality NC remains a steadfast advocate for the queer and trans community, especially in the face of relentless anti-LGBTQ+ measures.
