RALEIGH – Today, Equality NC released the fourth round of the organization's 2022 endorsements for political races across the state of North Carolina. We are excited to continue to endorse equality minded candidates that have a commitment to LGBTQ+ and racial justice across our state and nation. We invite you to get involved with their campaigns, to stay engaged, and make a plan to vote this election season. As we know, this election will have a generational impact and we are committed to working toward equality for all. We're proud to stand with these candidates here in our state.
The new endorsed candidates are:
Jeff Jackson is running to represent the 14th congressional district in Congress. He has served as a State Senator, representing southeast Charlotte in the General Assembly. We're confident that he will be a strong advocate for our communities.
Sean Ewing is a veteran and Alamance County resident who has served as a member of the Mebane Town Council. A strong advocate for healthcare, education, and the environment, we're confident that Sean will stand up for us.
Ray Jeffers is a native of Person County and County Commissioner. He's won several awards, including N.C. Association of Black County Officials Commissioner of the Year Award. A strong advocate for rural communities, he has served well in office. Ray Jeffers will stand strong for our community in the State House.
Eric Terashima is a long-serving veteran of the armed forces and resident of Brunswick County. He's deeply involved in the community, working with Habitat for Humanity and helping resettle Afghan refugees. He will be an excellent advocate in the legislature.
Maria Cervania is a Wake County Commissioner and community leader. She's a public health expert, with a Master of Public Health and extensive experience. She was the first Filipino serving in elected office in North Carolina, and we're confident that she'll continue this record of representation and expertise in the General Assembly.
Brandon Gray is a community advocate from Guilford County. He wishes to serve his community and work for the people by creating more living-wage jobs in his district, improving schools, raising teacher pay, making sure kids and communities are safe, and providing health insurance for all North Carolinians who want it. An out candidate, we're sure he'll represent in the NCGA.
Amber Baker is a representative from Winston-Salem. An educator, principal, and advocate, she has served the Winston-Salem community for many years. We know she'll bring this proven record to the North Carolina Legislature.
Dennis Miller is from Davidson County and is running to represent Thomasville in the NC General Assembly. We know he'll work for us in the legislature!
Josh Remillard is a native North Carolinian running to represent the Southwestern portion of the state. He's a veteran and community leader, working hard to address issues of veteran mental health, democracy protection, healthcare, and more.
Stormie Forte is a member of the Raleigh City Council and a prominent radio host, with her show, The Art of Listening with Stormie Forte. An out council member, we know she'll continue to stand out for us.
Amanda Cook is a member of the Guilford County School Board. A progressive voice, she has championed diversity, equity, and inclusion. We know that if re-elected, she'll continue to stand for social justice.
Judy Justice is a well-respected advocate for students and teachers in schools. She is a committed fighter for racial justice and for students who have been marginalized. We're confident that she'll continue this strong record.
Lynn Edmonds is a parent of two Wake County Public School Grads and a tireless advocate for public schools. We know that she will protect our students, teachers, and our community in office.
Lindsay Mahaffey is a current member of the Wake County School Board and educator, with many years of experience in the classroom. She brings her expertise and tireless advocacy to bear in working hard for all of us.
Kimberly Best is an experienced legal mind and District Court Judge serving the Charlotte community. An impartial and equity-minded public servant, Judge Best is behind our community.
Jennifer Fleet is a knowledgeable attorney who will bring a commitment to equality to the district court bench. We know she'll work for justice for everyone.
Matt Newton is a current Charlotte City Council member and attorney who is running for district court. We know that if elected, he will serve our communities with impartially and with a focus on equity.
Amanda Maris is a current district court judge and community advocate. If re-elected, we know that she'll continue to serve as a strong leader for our communities.
