State of Equality: ENC April Newsletter

A Message from Kendra

Friend, ENC is here for you. In the time since we last spoke, our world has changed beyond recognition. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis is disproportionately impacting our communities and the most vulnerable among us while revealing massive flaws and holes within our social and political systems.

These are scary things to face, and ENC is committed to being your voice and supporting you as we decipher this daily shifting landscape together. Let us know how you are? We've put together this survey to figure out the ways we can best support you in the weeks and months to come.

We've also moved all of our events and programming online. These are difficult and isolating times for us all, but LGBTQ people have a rich history of building community and finding one another during some of this country's most difficult periods.

Please, join us as we continue this tradition and come together and support one another during this hour of need. We're in this together! See you soon.

Virtual Chapter Meetings

MUTUAL AID RESOURCES

Equality NC is continuing to seek out and promote a wide variety of resources through our website and social media channels. From unemployment to mental health to food scarcity, we all need support in different ways right now. You can find our ongoing list of avenues for support here. If you have something you'd like us to uplift, email nate@equalitync.org.

NC United for Survival and Beyond

ENC has joined NC United for Survival and Beyond, a coalition of over 200 organizations that co-created ten demands of the NC General Assembly and Governor to respond to the most vulnerable communities during COVID-19 -- and beyond. These demands include calls for expanding medicaid, protecting immigrants and protecting incarcerated folks.

As Kendra told the News & Observer, "As a broad coalition of directly impacted people, constituencies and organizations committed to weathering this storm together, we demand that our elected officials take action." Read the whole article here.

Virtual Town Hall with ENC Staff

Join ENC staff and community leaders on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:30PM for a virtual town hall on our COVID-19 response. We would love for you to join us for a conversation about our work and the ways that we can all support one another during this time. We'll see you then.

The Census: Be Counted!

Though it may seem trivial as COVID-19 ravages our world, the census is an incredibly important tool for our communities to both be counted and build political power over the next decade. It's a short questionnaire focused primarily on gathering demographic information. In light of COVID-19, the self-response deadline has been extended to Oct. 31. Please, make sure your friends and family complete the census -- it's on all of us to make sure that our communities are counted!

PAC Endorsements

The last round of the Equality NC Action Fund PAC's endorsements will be released next week. Keep your eyes peeled to our social media channels for the roll-out and our voter guides in the coming months. Together, we can build a better future -- and it starts with the ballot box.
