State of Equality: December Newsletter

A Message From Kendra

From all of us at Equality North Carolina, we wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season. This December feels different for all of us, but we hope you're able to find some joy and love among people that you care about in these final weeks of 2020.

There never been a year like this before and, with any luck, there won't be one again. Everything that Equality North Carolina was able to accomplish this year in the midst of a global pandemic is because of your dedication, passion, and support. Thank you for being on this journey with us -- we look forward to fighting another day alongside you in 2021. Happy Holidays!

On Dec. 1, a key prong of North Carolina's House Bill 142 expired on the first, clearing the way for cities and towns to pass LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances and finally protect our communities. We've launched a digital portal alongside Campaign for Southern Equality called #NCIsReady to make it easy for you to contact your local elected officials and voice support for nondiscrimination ordinances. Head to www.ncisready.org to learn more!

In January, ENC will announce our new cohort of Rural Youth Empowerment (RYE) Fellows, our year-long program for young LGBTQ folks shaping the future of under-resourced areas of North Carolina. Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, check out the virtual RYE Summit from last Saturday featuring Fellows from both the 2020 and 2021 cohorts.

On Jan. 12, join Equality North Carolina and affirming faith leaders from across the state to discuss local, state, and federal nondiscrimination efforts and how the faith community can be involved.

January's meeting is part of an affirming-faith leader group organized by ENC. You can sign up for the Facebook group here or contact artie@equalitync.org for more info. This meeting will take place over Zoom -- register here.

For a little over a year, Equality North Carolina has been privileged enough to have the legendary Mandy Carter join our ranks as a Voter Engagement Strategist. Mandy has been doing this work her entire life and brought decades of community leadership and wisdomm to our team. She also happens to be one of the founders of Equality North Carolina! From all of us here at ENC, THANK YOU Mandy for your service and dedication to this movement and our organization. We love you!

As we thankfully close out 2020 and bring in this holiday season with loved ones and reflect on what we've gained and what we've lost we ask you to consider what Equality NC has meant to you. From racial inequality to the pandemic to the election, we have been through so much together this year. ENC needs your support now more than ever. Visit us here and make your year-end contribution by midnight on December 31, 2020. Your gift will support our communities, our most vulnerable, and help us rebuild for 2021 and beyond.
