Equality NC Action Fund Pac Endorses Pierce Freelon for Durham City Council at Large Appointment
RALEIGH, NC — Today, Equality NC Action Fund PAC announced their endorsement of Pierce Freelon for the appointment to Durham’s City Council at Large.
“Pierce Freelon is committed to building a stronger community and advancing equality for all LGBTQ Durham residents,” said Equality NC Interim Executive Director Matt Hirschy. “Mr. Freelon’s motivation to create a safer, more equitable Durham has permeated throughout his campaign for mayor of Durham and will be a welcome addition to Durham’s city council. His support of workplace non-discrimination protections and public accommodations for LGBTQ people make him an excellent choice for the job. Pierce Freelon continues to be committed to public service by seeking the appointment to Durham city council at Large. In the primary, Steve Schewel and Pierce Freelon both earned the endorsement to mayor of Durham by Equality NC. Mr. Freelon has reaffirmed his commitment to passing fully-inclusive, commonsense non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ residents and visitors in Durham and is fully supportive of public accommodations. Furthermore, Mr. Freelon understands the epidemic of transgender violence and recognized that it disproportionately affects transgender people of color.
Born and raised in Durham, Pierce Freelon understands the complex challenges the city faces. As one of the fastest growing cities in North Carolina, Durham needs leadership that is qualified and dedicated. Mr. Freelon has proven to be both.
