Equality NC Statement on Spencer/ Salisbury Holiday Parade

Equality NC has issued the following statement regarding the cancelation of the 2018 Holiday Caravan Parade in Spencer and Salisbury.

"It is clear that the Holiday Caravan Parade in Spencer and Salisbury is important to many people," said Kendra R. Johnson, Equality NC Executive Director. "In a time when political divisiveness is at an all-time high, the event has been an opportunity for a community to come together and celebrate. Unfortunately, last year the actions of the organizers went against this core idea. Equality NC is disappointed that organizers did not use this incident as an opportunity to review its policies, but instead canceled the event altogether. These actions will only create more divisions, at a point in time when open dialogue and conversation has never been more important. We sincerely hope that the organizers will reconsider their decision and make the Holiday Caravan Parade the event that everyone in the community has always seen it as - a celebration for everyone."
