NC NAACP Continues "Million Voters March III Campaign" With GOTV Tour Across North Carolina

The North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP will continue its "Million Voters March III Campaign" with a tour around the state in a lead up to Election Day. The campaign was launched during the NC NAACP State Convention earlier this month and will include tour stops by NC NAACP State Conference President Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II. With the tour, the NC NAACP plans to: 1) Inspire one million African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, other minorities, progressive Whites, and friends in the labor and faith communities to vote early; 2) Challenge and report on tactics being used to suppress and block voter participation; and 3) Educate the electorate about the important and critical issues facing North Carolinians in this election.
There are currently sixteen regional events scheduled across the state, with more currently being organized. Additionally, several major civic and faith groups are hosting campaign stops as well. See information on each event below.
"When you understand the history of voter suppression in this nation, then you understand why the NAACP and the civil rights community will challenge any attempt to suppress, block or limit the right to vote as afforded by our Constitution," said Rev. Barber. "The values that people ought to consider when voting this year should be: 1) economic sustainability, addressing poverty, full employment and labor rights; 2) educational equality for all students and children; 3) healthcare for all and ensuring access to Medicare and Medicaid; 4) addressing the continuing inequalities in the criminal justice system for black, brown and poor white people; and 5) protecting, defending and expanding voting rights for all people. If we ever needed to vote, we sure do need to vote now!"
Stops are planned for Pitt, Martin, Lenoir, Pender, Nash/Edgecombe, Pasquotank, Moore, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Scotland, Guilford, Harnett, Forsyth and Cumberland Counties. All of the rallies and news conferences are regional events, with area counties and NAACP branches participating. The campaign has already made stops in Chatham, Wake, Durham and Vance Counties.
