NEW BERN - Equality NC, the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy organization kicks off its statewide "Making Our Voices Count" Town Hall Tour in New Bern, NC, Monday, February 11, at 6 p.m., from the Lawson's Landing Cafe (529 S Front St. New Bern, NC.)

The "Making Our Voices Count" Tour is Equality NC’s latest series of statewide town hall meetings devoted to information and discussion surrounding the current state of LGBT issues in and new legislation impacting the Equality of All North Carolinians. Each stop on the Tour not only features an informative presentation, but also a Q&A devoted to the many ways that local communities can become more involved in Equality NC’s current grassroots efforts.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to engage with our all-important supporters in eastern North Carolina as we continue fighting for Equality,” said Stuart Campbell, executive director of Equality NC. “This latest Equality NC town hall tour is an important way for North Carolinians to ask questions and have their voices heard on LGBT issues that matter most to them.”

Equality NC chose New Bern to launch its tour after a local lesbian couple received a letter from a local business owner condemning their relationship. The incident received national attention, and spurred the New Bern area to look for new ways to support its LGBT community.

In order to help this community heal from this incident, Equality NC has also pledged to publish a list of business establishments in New Bern and beyond who have pledged to value Equality for all North Carolinians, including their LGBT patrons and employees.
