Anti-Gay NC Group Files Supreme Court Amicus Brief

Anti-gay group North Carolina Values Coalition has filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court to defend North Carolina's Amendment One as the high court takes up two cases related to marriage equality.

The brief was filed as the Supreme Court prepares to take up the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 and the so-called federal 'Defense of Marriage Act' in March 2013. The brief seeks to defend the North Carolina's right to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. The brief says in part, “A state mandate to affirm same-sex marriage would have an explosive impact on religious persons who could easily treat all individuals with equal respect and dignity but cannot in good conscience endorse or facilitate same-sex marriage."
