RALEIGH, N.C. -- Equality NC, North Carolina’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, endorsed candidates for Mayor and City Council in eight targeted cities and towns across the Old North State.

This year represents the first-ever round of municipal endorsements for Equality NC, which has provided this constituent service to LGBT people in state-level races for many years.

“Local elections are crucial, and 2015 is one of the most important municipal election cycles in a long time for the LGBT community,” said Equality NC Executive Director Chris Sgro. “LGBT people lack key protections against discrimination in this state, and we look to the innovative towns and cities across the states to ensure they provide these protections. 2015 is the year to elect pro-equality candidates to office.”

“After conversations with candidates across the state, we are excited to let LGBT people know which candidates are committed to stand up for us. We will make sure our members know who will support equality and ensure that they turn out to vote in primaries and general elections across the state,” said Sgro.
