North Carolina Files Pro-LGBTQ+ Bills Five Years After Trans Bathroom Disaster

A group of Democratic lawmakers in North Carolina introduced four bills on Tuesday aimed at providing broad protections for LGBTQ+ people in the state.

The package consists of three bills that Democratic lawmakers failed to pass previously. One would prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ+ North Carolinans on a number of fronts, including employment, housing, and education. Another would fully repeal a controversial anti-trans bathroom bill known as House Bill 2, while the third would ban conversion therapy among minors.

"I'm proud to file the bill to protect minors from harmful 'conversion therapy' in the Senate today and to stand with my #ncga colleagues who support LGBTQ equality," State Senator Natasha Marcus announced on Twitter, referring to her colleagues in the North Carolina General Assembly.
