Free Concert In Salisbury To Benefit Equality NC

The concert will be in Salisbury on Saturday, March 6, at 7:00pm, in the sanctuary of the Haven Evangelical Lutheran Church at 207 W. Harrison Street.

Equality NC is grateful for work of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Charlotte and Salisbury/Rowan PFLAG, their message of inclusion and solidarity, and their support of Equality NC's work for fairness for the state's LGBT citizens.

The piece was originally commissioned two years ago by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, and speaks eloquently to the diversity of families. Some of the movements include:

• "Always With Love" that describes how important a loving family is.
• "Crossfire" about the difficulties of managing the pulls of our birth families and families of choice.
• "The Gift Of Two" about growing up with gay/lesbian parents.
• "Nightfall" describing how a family of one is still a family.
• "Neighbors and Friends" on how we find family in unexpected places and in unexpected people.
• "A Wall of Glass" about the separation many gay/lesbian people experience when their partner is in the hospital they aren’t allowed in because they're not legally family.
• "This House Shall Stand" about the durability of family.

An informal reception to meet and greet the artists will be held in the church fellowship hall after the performance.

Everyone will find themselves reflected on this truly beautiful work”.

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Charlotte was formed in 2006. Under the direction of John C. Quillin, the ensemble has grown steadily in membership and audience.

John Herrick is the group’s associate director and Cynthia Hunt-Lawrence serves as GMCC’s principal accompanist.

GMCC maintains an extensive schedule throughout the Carolinas, having mounted 35 performances since its inception and having reached over 9,000 people with its message of inclusion.
