Equality NC Recognizes World AIDS Day, Reminds about NC Red Ribbon Specialty License Plate
Equality NC recognizes December 1, 2008, as World AIDS Day. The day is a time to celebrate the lives of the estimated 30,000 North Carolinians currently living with HIV/AIDS, as well as to raise awareness about the epidemic and the needs we have for more prevention and treatment.
Many events are planned across the state, including a display in Raleigh of the internationally renowned AIDS Memorial Quilt by the NAMES Project Foundation.
Last year the North Carolina government authorized the creation of a specialty license plate for AIDS awareness, featuring a red ribbon design and the words "Find a Cure." The extra fee for the plates will be given to the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina, which took the lead on its creation.
Ian Palmquist, Equality NC's Executive Director, said "The new license plates are one more tool for keeping the fight to end AIDS at the forefront in our state."
AAS-C must collect 300 applications before the plates go into production and are available on the DMV website. Click here to download the application.
