ENC PAC Endorsed Candidates Fare Well in Primary
5/7/2008 - Twelve of Equality NC PAC's thirteen endorsed candidates won their competetive primary races yesterday. Only Richard Moore, the group's endorsed candidate for Governor, failed to secure his party's nomination. Pro-equality candidates won races for the Council of State, Court of Appeals, and the legislature.
"Our success in helping strong allies secure primary victories yesterday places Equality NC PAC in a strong position for the November election," said Ian Palmquist, Executive Director.
Long-time allies Sen. Janet Cowell and former Rep. Wayne Goodwin won the nomination for Treasurer and Commisioner of Insurance, respectively. Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson won her primary to run for re-election in November.
Six of our legislative allies faced primary challenges, and all won them, including appointed incumbents Rep. Angela Bryant and Rep. Tricia Cotham. Josh Stein also won his race for an open senate seat with an aggressive direct mail campaign that prominently featured Equality NC's endorsement.
