Volunteers Organizing for Safe Schools

Equality NC volunteers are working hard in preparation for the 2008 legislative session. We've begun an exciting new campaign to pass the LGBT-inclusive anti-bullying bill this year in the General Assembly. We’re circulating postcards around the state that ask state senators and state representatives to support inclusive legislation with sexual orientation and gender identity or expression enumerated in the bill.

We’re also having weekly phone banks to call our members who we do not have email addresses for and ask them to sign up for alerts on this important bill.  So far, we have gathered over 1,000 postcards to deliver to legislators, and added hundreds of people to our activist base!

ENC needs your help in these endeavors!  Are you a part of an organization or faith community that supports protections for LGBT students?  Are your friends interested in advancing LGBT equality in North Carolina?  We will mail you postcards to circulate in your communities, churches, organizations, schools, and social circles, and we’ll give you a paid envelope to mail them back when they’ve been filled out!  Contact Josh Wynne via email at josh@equalitync.org or phone at (919) 829-0343 ext. 113 if you can help.

We also need folks to help us at our weekly volunteer nights in Raleigh!  Our next three are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday, March 11 at 6pm
  • Wednesday, March 19 at 6pm
  • Wednesday, March 26 at 6pm

Mark your calendars!  Contact Josh for details.
