Equality NC Foundation Receives Major Grant to Support Non-Discrimination Efforts

1/3/2008 - Equality NC Foundation has been chosen to receive a two-year grant from the State Equality Fund of Tides Foundation to support our work to win non-discrimination for state employees and to build public and legislative support for statewide non-discrimination protections.

The State Equality Fund is a philanthropic partnership of the Gill Foundation, a long-time supporter of our work; the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr Fund; and anonymous donors, and is managed by Tides Foundation. That grant includes $65,000 for our work in 2008 and $45,000 for our work in 2009, marking the largest single pledge we have received to date.

The grant will support organizing work across the state to build our base of activists, collect and publicize personal stories of discrimination, and advocate for policies that include protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

"We are honored to receive this grant, which represents a strong endorsement of the hard work we have been doing to build our organization and boost the influence of the LGBT community in our state," said Ian Palmquist, Executive Director. "We continue to believe that our national movement cannot succeed without progress in the South, and North Carolina presents an incredible opportunity to win real policy changes that affect the lives of LGBT people."
