State of Equality: March 2021 Newsletter

A Message from Kendra

As we pass into year two of the pandemic, so many of us are fatigued -- physically, emotionally and spiritually. It's been a long and horrendous year for our communities, and we've lost so many wonderful folks that dedicated their lives to fighting for LGBTQ people, communities of color, and a better world for us all.

But beyond the suffering, this year also demonstrated the resiliency of our most vulnerable populations. It brought us the opportunity for long-overdue social and political change that our country desperately needed. And it gave many of us the time -- and the strength -- to confront societal ills head-on.

No matter what the months ahead bring, Equality NC will be here with you every step of the way. We'd like to invite you to get engaged with our work -- there are so many opportunities to plug in! Check out what we've got going on below, and thank you for being part of our family.

From all of us at Equality North Carolina, Happy Women's History Month! We join you in celebrating the resiliency and power of women from all walks of life -- particularly those helping to transform the political arena.

Throughout March, ENC is spotlighting trans women who have been elected to political office from all across America. These history-makers demonstrate not only the importance of representation in the highest offices of leadership, but the political and social progress of American culture when it comes to womanhood, visibility and the shifting tides of power. We've seen incredible progress across North Carolina over the past two months, with six different municipalities passing LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances. We're so proud of Hillsborough, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, Greensboro and Orange County. Want your town, city or county to be next? Head to NCIsReady.org to make your voice heard!

Trans Day of Visibility

On March 31, ENC Rural Youth Empowerment Fellows are hosting an Art & Expressions Night on Transgender Day of Visibility.

During ENC's event, participants will engage in art expression while hearing the stories of gender journeys, navigating mental health, and building community. This virtual event is free to the public and open to all.
