House Bill 776: Ineffective Bullying Bill

  • Bill Status:
    • Introduced 3/25/2009 and referred to Committee on Education and Judiciary I.

  • ENC Position: Equality NC opposes this bill.

Bill Summary:

Titled "No Bullying Anyone at Public Schools," this bill takes the language of the School Violence Prevention Act but strips the critical section which includes enumerated protections for harassment based on categories like race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and others. Because it lacks that language, research shows this bill will not be nearly as effective at making our schools safe.
