Introduced on March 12, 2009 by Rep. Rick Glazier (D-Cumberland), Rep. Susan Fisher (D-Buncombe), Rep. Cullie Tarleton (D-Watauga), and Rep. Grier Martin (D-Wake) along with 51 bi-partisan co-sponsors, House Bill 548, would require public schools to adopt strong policies against bullying and harassment, specifically including bullying and harassment based on race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, physical appearance, sexual orientation, or mental, physical, or sensory disability, or by association with a person who has or is perceived to have one or more of these characteristics.
Equality NC is playing an active role in Prevent School Violence NC, a broad coalition working to pass the bill.
