House Bill 1494: Hospital Visitation/Patient Choice

Bill Summary

Introduced on April 17, 2007 by Rep. Martha Alexander (D-Mecklenburgy), House Bill 1494, would allow hospital patients to designate in their medical records individuals not related by blood or marriage who they wish to receive the same visitation privileges as immediate family. This bill would improve the lives of patients who wish to see their unmarried partners, caregivers, or other important people in their support network.
