One Year Later: Equality NC Remembers Michael Brown

RALEIGH, N.C. — Equality NC, North Carolina’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, responded today to the one year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death.

Chris Sgro, Equality NC’s executive director, released the following statement.

“Today Equality NC remembers the death of Michael Brown. As an organization that represents LGBT communities, we stand with the social and racial justice movements. I speak on behalf of the entire Equality NC family that we are equally invested in the quest for justice for all. This tragedy sparked an important conversation, one that is just getting started. The #BlackLivesMatter movement represents the frustrations of millions of Americans, from every corner of the nation. We know that we have an enormous amount of work to do to affect real change in the hearts and minds of our people. Equality NC remains committed to working with its partner organizations to make these changes. There is no excuse for these tragedies to be happening today.”
