Kay Flaminio, Director of Development
Kay Flamino joined the Equality NC staff in November 2006 and manages the group's fundraising program.
Kay Flaminio has been a fundraiser for twenty-two years. Her specialty is individual giving and she has extensive experience in corporate and foundation relations; management of special events; publications including newsletters, direct mail pieces, and organizational histories; public relations; financial management; and strategic planning.
Kay has worked with a number of nonprofits across a spectrum of issues from reproductive choice to AIDS to mental health to animal welfare. Her most recent position was with the Carolina Theatre of Durham where she worked on fundraising for the 2006 North Carolina Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. She has also worked for the Animal Protection Society of Orange County, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of North Carolina, Duke School, the American Social Health Association, and Planned Parenthood. Kay has joined Equality North Carolina as its first development director to do her part to help foster respect for the LGBT community.
Kay is from upstate New York and moved to North Carolina in 1990. She lives in a restored 1928 bungalow in Durham and is an avowed Durhamite. She reads compulsively--mostly histories of the South--collects antiques, travels, and rescues cats.
