About the Day of Action

Is helping to achieve LGBT equality worth one day off from work this year? We hope you can answer that question with a resounding YES.

Attend the Equality NC Day of Action 2010 on Tuesday, May 25 to oppose the marriage discrimination constitutional amendment and speak out for important legislation to address discrimination, HIV prevention and care funding, and other issues.

We'll provide training on how to talk with elected officials and bring you up to speed on the key issues this session, then send you off for appointments with your legislators.

Parking Information

Parking near the Legislative Building can be tricky. Here are a few options:

Option 1: From the Legislative Building, continue on Jones St across Wilmington St. and take the first right into a visitor parking lot. (This lot fills up quickly.)

Option 2: From the Legislative Building, turn left on Wilmington St. Bear left at the end of the block to loop back onto Salisbury Street. Turn right into the third parking deck on the right which is marked for visitor parking. (This lot also fills up some mornings.)

Option 3: From the Legislative Building, continue on Jones St. into the residential area and look for unrestricted parking on Jones and the surrounding streets. (This involves walking a few blocks, but you should be able to find a spot.)

Transportation Assistance for Transgender Community

The Connie Spry Fund is a special fund created by a generous donor to honor the memory of our former board member Connie Spry, who was a strong advocate for the transgender community. The fund will provide assistance in covering transportation and lodging costs for transgender Day of Action participants with financial need.

To apply, please email Ian Palmquist  with the following information or call him at (919) 829-0343:

  • Your name, address and phone number
  • What you are requesting reimbursement for (gas money, parking fee, bus ticket, lodging if you must drive to Raleigh the night before Lobby Day, etc.).
  • A statement that you identify as transgender and have a financial need to cover these expenses.

We will respond to let you know if you have been approved for assistance.
