Equality NC Supporter Top Vote-Getter in Carrboro Aldermen Race

11/7/2007 - Equality North Carolina congratulates our friend and supporter Lydia Lavelle on her election to the Carrboro Board of Aldermen in yesterday's election. Lavelle will be one of seven openly gay or lesbian elected officials in North Carolina.

Lavelle received the most votes of the six candidates for three seats on the board, about 26 percent.

"Lydia is an outspoken and active part of her community, and I know she will ably serve the people of Carrboro as Alderman," said Ian Palmquist, Executive Director. "I'm proud to have another out official continue Carrboro's tradition of LGBT representation and leadership on issues of equality and justice."
